The Similar Words of to question (left) and to ask (right) show that they are not very similar. SkELL generates these lists based on the collocates of all of the words in the list or cloud. If two words have a lot of collocates in common, they are considered semantically similar. In the cloud, the bigger the word, the more collocates they have in common.
I wonder how many other pairs of 'synonyms' you could check using Similar Words.
